Sheraton Grand Mirage delivers something rare on the Gold Coast, a low-rise, garden-set beachfront resort that feels more Fiji than Surfers Paradise. The lagoon pools, tropical grounds, and direct beach access create genuine resort atmosphere. It shows its age in some areas, but the setting and space remain unmatched on the Gold Coast for those seeking tropical relaxation over high-rise views.
The resort offers a mix of hotel rooms and villa-style accommodation. Villas with private patios and lagoon pool access are the standout option, spacious (from 55sqm), tropical, and far more interesting than standard hotel rooms. Standard rooms (38sqm) are functional but unremarkable. The 2022 renovation updated interiors but couldn't fully mask the building's vintage.
Room Type | Size | From | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
Resort Room Most Popular | 38 sqm | $280 | Budget-conscious, short stays |
Lagoon Room | 38 sqm | $350 | Pool views |
Mirage Villa | 55 sqm | $450 | Families, tropical atmosphere |
Grand Mirage Villa | 80 sqm | $650 | Space, luxury resort experience |
Main Beach is the Gold Coast's most refined beach suburb, quieter and more upscale than Surfers Paradise, with better dining along Tedder Avenue. The beach is excellent for swimming, with generally calmer conditions than Surfers. Surfers Paradise strip is 10 minutes south by car or tram.
The lagoon pool complex is the resort's defining feature, multiple interconnected pools weaving through tropical gardens, with swim-up sections and poolside service. Direct beach access through the resort grounds. Tennis courts, fitness centre, and spa. Kids' activities during school holidays.
Terraces restaurant serves contemporary Australian with seafood focus, reliable but not destination dining. The pool bar handles casual lunches and drinks. Tedder Avenue in Main Beach (5-minute walk) offers significantly better dining variety.
Marriott-standard service is evident, professional and efficient, with Bonvoy elite recognition. The resort scale (295 rooms) means service can stretch during peak periods (school holidays, Christmas). Villa guests receive slightly more attentive service.
At $280-500/night for standard rooms and $400-700 for villas, the Sheraton Grand Mirage offers strong value for the beachfront resort experience. The villas represent the best value, genuine tropical living that high-rise towers can't replicate. Book villas for the full experience.
