Ibis Wollongong is a budget hotel that knows what it is. Small rooms, basic fit-out, no view, no pool , but clean, central, and $130/night. The onsite restaurant and bar are a step above typical budget hotel food. For one-night stays, South Coast road trips, or visitors spending their days at the beach and not in the room, Ibis delivers adequate accommodation at a price that leaves money for better things. Don't expect more than the brand promises.
Rooms are around 18-20sqm with a queen bed, desk, small TV, and compact ensuite bathroom. That's it. The Ibis SweetBed is comfortable enough , a genuine strength of the brand. Storage is limited to a small wardrobe. Power outlets are adequate but not abundant. Air conditioning works. The room serves one purpose: sleep. For that purpose, it's adequate. For anything else, leave the room and explore the city.
Room Type | Size | From | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
Standard Room Most Popular | 18 sqm | $130 | Solo, couples on a budget |
Standard Twin | 20 sqm | $140 | Friends, budget business |
On Crown Street in the CBD, 10 minutes walk to Wollongong Station and 15 minutes to North Beach. Crown Street Mall shops and restaurants are within 5 minutes on foot. The location is genuinely central, which partly compensates for the basic room. Her Bar, Babyface Kitchen, and other Wollongong dining options are all walkable.
On-site restaurant (Ibis Kitchen) serves breakfast ($18 buffet , standard but filling) and a basic dinner menu. Bar with local beers and wine. Parking on-site ($10/day). Free WiFi. Guest laundry. No pool, no gym, no spa, no room service. The restaurant and bar are the sole amenities, and they're actually decent for a 3-star property.
At $130/night, Ibis Wollongong is $55-100 cheaper per night than mid-range competitors. Over a 3-night stay, that's $165-300 saved , enough for several good dinners in town or a day trip to Kiama. The value is clear if you treat the hotel as a place to sleep and shower, spending your days at the beach and evenings at restaurants. If the room matters to you , views, space, amenities , spend $70 more for Sage Hotel.
