Quick Answer
Sofitel Noosa Pacific is the best hotel on Hastings Street , rooftop pool, walk to everything, $450+/night. Peppers Noosa Resort on Noosa Sound offers resort-style apartment living with a lagoon pool from $420. RACV Noosa Resort is the best family pick with suites and a large pool. Noosa doesn't do budget , the cheapest decent option is $250/night. If that's too steep, stay in Mooloolaba and drive up.
Noosa operates in its own pricing universe on the Sunshine Coast. While Mooloolaba and Caloundra offer honest beachside value, Noosa charges a premium that puts it alongside Byron Bay and the Gold Coast's luxury end. The difference is what you get for the money: Hastings Street is a genuinely excellent dining and shopping strip, Main Beach is one of Australia's best (north-facing, sheltered, patrolled), and Noosa National Park starts right where the restaurants end. The food scene alone , Locale, Noosa Beach House, Sails, Bistro C, Sum Yung Guys , would be noteworthy in Sydney or Melbourne. Noosa earns its premium. It just doesn't offer a budget alternative.

Hastings Street is a 400-metre stretch that runs parallel to Main Beach. Boutique shops (no chain retailers , deliberately excluded by planning rules), restaurants, and hotels line both sides. Sofitel Noosa Pacific sits at the eastern end, right where the national park begins. The street terminates at Noosa National Park , there's something genuinely appealing about walking from dinner to a coastal rainforest trail. Accommodation on Hastings Street starts at $350/night for a basic apartment. The Sofitel and Netanya Noosa are the premium hotels. Several smaller apartment buildings offer self-contained options at slightly lower prices.
Noosa Sound sits behind Hastings Street on the river (Noosa River) rather than the ocean side. Peppers Noosa Resort is the anchor property , lagoon pool, spacious apartments, and a 10-minute walk to Hastings Street. The Sound is calmer and quieter than Hastings Street, which makes it popular with families and those wanting more space. Prices are 15-25% lower than equivalent Hastings Street addresses. The river side offers kayaking, paddleboarding, and calm water , good for young children. Several ferry services run up the Noosa River to the Noosa Everglades.
Noosa Junction is the "locals' Hastings Street" , 1km uphill from the tourist strip with cafes, restaurants, and shops at 20-30% lower prices. Aromas Noosa, Noosa Junction Thai, and Miss Moneypenny's are local favourites. Accommodation near the Junction (mostly apartments and short-term rentals) runs $200-350/night. The trade-off: you're a 15-minute walk (mostly downhill) to Main Beach or a 3-minute drive. For a longer stay where you want to eat out frequently without spending Hastings Street prices, the Junction is practical.
Noosa National Park is the other half of Noosa's appeal. The coastal track from the car park (end of Hastings Street) heads east along the headland, passing Tea Tree Bay (calm swimming, often dolphins), Granite Bay (clothing optional), Alexandria Bay, and eventually Hell's Gates (dramatic rock formations). The full walk to Hell's Gates is 5.4km one way, mostly flat with some stairs. Shorter loops are possible , the Tea Tree Bay circuit takes 45 minutes. No entry fee, no booking required. Early morning walks avoid the crowds. Koalas are regularly spotted in the trees along the main path.
Noosa punches absurdly above its weight for a town of 5,000 permanent residents. Locale delivers wood-fired Italian with local produce. Noosa Beach House does modern Australian right on Main Beach. Sails does seafood on the river. Bistro C has Hastings Street views and a crowd-pleasing menu. Sum Yung Guys (Noosa Junction) does Thai that would survive in Bangkok. Wasabi (Quamby Place) is the sushi institution. For casual dining, the Hastings Street burger and fish-and-chip options are tourist-priced but serviceable. Book dinner at the better restaurants , walk-in tables are rare, especially on weekends.
Noosa Sound accommodation is 15-25% cheaper than equivalent Hastings Street properties. You're a 10-minute walk from the action but in a quieter setting with river access. Peppers and several apartment buildings make this work well.
Locale, Noosa Beach House, and Sum Yung Guys book out 1-2 weeks ahead for weekend dinner. Reserve before your trip, not during it.
The national park coastal track gets busy by 10am on weekends. Start at 7am for quiet walking and the best chance of koala sightings. Dolphins are regularly seen from Tea Tree Bay in the morning.
The Noosa River ferry runs from Tewantin to the Noosa Everglades , one of only two everglades systems in the world. A half-day trip on the water is one of the Sunshine Coast's best activities and an alternative to beach days.
