Our Verdict

DoubleTree Perth Waterfront proves you don't need to pay Ritz-Carlton prices to stay at Elizabeth Quay. The location is the selling point , riverfront position with direct water access, the same precinct restaurants, and the same sunset views from about half the room rate. Rooms are standard DoubleTree quality (reliable, unexciting), the warm cookie at check-in is still charming, and the water-view rooms genuinely deliver. It's not trying to be luxury and that honesty works in its favour.

What We Love

  • Elizabeth Quay location at roughly half the price of neighbouring Ritz-Carlton
  • River-view rooms have genuine water outlook, not a sliver
  • Hilton Honors points and status benefits apply
  • Good-sized rooms (30sqm standard) with reliable Hilton consistency
  • On-site parking available (unusual for waterfront hotels)
  • Walking distance to Perth Convention Centre and ferry terminal

Consider

  • Rooms are functional, not inspiring , standard Hilton fit-out
  • Restaurant is forgettable , eat at the Elizabeth Quay precinct instead
  • City-view rooms are a significant step down from river-view
  • Pool area is small and can feel crowded in summer
  • Some rooms need a refresh , the fit-out shows wear in places
  • No executive lounge despite the business-traveller clientele

The Rooms

Standard rooms are about 30sqm with the reliable DoubleTree formula: good bed (Sweet Dreams by DoubleTree), clean bathroom, work desk, and predictable everything. The difference between city-view and river-view is significant , always pay the extra $40-60 for river facing. Higher floors (15+) get the best outlooks across the Swan River to South Perth. The fit-out is functional rather than stylish, and some rooms are showing their age. Suites add a living area and make sense for families or longer stays.

Location

This is the hotel's trump card. Elizabeth Quay is Perth's best waterfront precinct , restaurants, ferry terminal, BHP Water Park for kids, and a genuine sense of place that the old Esplanade never had. The Ritz-Carlton is your neighbour. Perth Convention Centre is a 5-minute walk. Perth Underground station is 10 minutes for trains everywhere. Kings Park is 15 minutes uphill. The waterfront location does the heavy lifting that the hotel interiors don't.

Amenities

Small outdoor pool, basic fitness centre, on-site parking ($35/day , cheaper than most CBD alternatives and worth having if you're driving). No spa. No executive lounge, which is a miss for a hotel that attracts plenty of business travellers. The Elizabeth Quay precinct itself fills the gaps , restaurants, bars, and public spaces outside your door replace the need for extensive in-house facilities.

Dining

The hotel restaurant serves adequate meals but nobody is eating here by choice when Elizabeth Quay has better options 2 minutes away. The lobby bar is fine for a quick drink. For breakfast, the hotel buffet is standard Hilton , reliable and unremarkable. Better to walk 5 minutes to any of the precinct cafes. Room service is available but limited.

Value for Money

At $190-310/night for standard rooms and $250-380 for river-view, this is Elizabeth Quay's value play. The Ritz-Carlton next door starts at $400-600 for a comparable view. If you're spending your days exploring Perth rather than lounging in the hotel, the DoubleTree gives you 80% of the Ritz location for 50% of the price. Hilton Honors members get additional value from points accumulation. It's the smart pick for practical travellers who prioritise location over luxury.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is DoubleTree Perth Waterfront worth it?
For the location at the price, yes. You get Elizabeth Quay waterfront at mid-range pricing. Don't expect luxury finishes or memorable design , you're paying for location and Hilton reliability. Always get a river-view room.
How does it compare to the Ritz-Carlton Perth?
The Ritz is a different league in room quality, dining, service, and amenities. But both face the same water at the same precinct. If you'd rather spend the $200-300/night difference on restaurants and experiences, the DoubleTree makes practical sense.
Is DoubleTree Perth good for families?
Solid choice. Elizabeth Quay has the BHP Water Park (free), a playground, and flat walking paths. Rooms are big enough for a cot or extra bed. The precinct restaurants are family-friendly. The pool is small but kids won't care about the size.
Does the DoubleTree Perth have parking?
Yes , on-site parking at about $35/day, which is competitive for a waterfront hotel. Most CBD hotels charge $40-50+. If you're arriving by car, this is a genuine advantage.
