How We Rank Hotels

Our approach to sorting and presenting hotel results

When you search for hotels on HotelPair, we sort results using several factors to help you find the most useful options quickly. Our goal is to surface hotels that offer the best combination of value, availability, and relevance to Australian travellers.

What We Consider

Value for Money

We assess how a hotel's price compares to similar properties in the same area. Hotels that offer competitive rates relative to their quality and location tend to rank higher. This helps ensure you see genuinely good deals, not just the cheapest or most expensive options.

Availability

Hotels with current availability and recently verified pricing are prioritised. There is no point showing you a great deal if the hotel is fully booked or the price is out of date. We aim to show options you can actually book.

Relevance

We consider how well a hotel matches your search context. If you are looking at family hotels in a particular city, properties with family-friendly amenities and good locations for families will appear higher in the results.

How We Make Money

HotelPair earns commission when you book a hotel through our affiliate links. This is how we keep the site free to use. We are transparent about this relationship and disclose it on every page that contains booking links.

Our ranking methodology does take commercial factors into account alongside value, availability, and relevance. We believe this is the most honest way to operate — rather than claiming our results are purely objective, we acknowledge that commercial relationships play a role while ensuring that the results remain genuinely useful.

What We Don't Do

  • We do not accept payment from individual hotels to rank them higher.
  • We do not hide or suppress hotels based on their commission rates.
  • We do not fabricate reviews, ratings, or availability information.

Your Control

You are not limited to our default sorting. On every comparison page, you can sort by price (low to high or high to low), guest rating, or star rating. You can also filter by price range, amenities, and other criteria. Our default “Recommended” sort uses the methodology described above, but you always have the option to sort differently.
